New king of fighting games set to enter arena

Japanese games developer SNK Playmore announced that King of Fighters XIII will be released on arcade gaming systems later in the year. Its final release date is still to be revealed.

In related news, SNK Playmore also announced last weekend that Samurai Showdown SEN (previously entitled Samurai Showdown: Edge of destiny) is in the final production stages and will be released exclusively on the Xbox 360 in the US early this year. No word yet on if or when it is coming to South Africa.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming in June

Nintendo has revealed the European release date for Super Mario Galaxy 2 at a summit hosted by Nintendo of Europe in London. Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released on 11 June and will boast some new galaxies to explore and new items to use, including a drill that will allow Mario to tunnel right through virtual-solid rock.

In related news, vg247.com reported that Nintendo’s Dan Adelman provided them with figures of 22 first party Nintendo Wii game titles and 54 third party Wii titles that have sold in excess of a million copies globally. Adelman reportedly stated the figures at Nintendo’s Media Summit in San Francisco this week. If the figures ring true, it would reflect the opposite of what Sony Computer Entertainment America’s (SCEA) senior vice president of publisher relations, Rob Dyer, said about the Wii’s game selling ability when it comes to third party titles.

Metal Gear Solid creator now on Twitter

Legendary Japanese video game designer Hideo Kojima is now also on Twitter and already has over 5 000 followers. Kojima is joining other game industry giants who have started to use this social networking site, such as Yoichi Wada, CEO of Final Fantasy creators Square Enix. Wada has over 13 300 people following his tweets. Before you start following them on Twitter though, be warned, they’re both only tweeting in Japanese.
