Groupon working on innovative music downloads deal
By Hanleigh Daniels 3 June 2011 | Categories: newsPopular deal-of-the-day website Groupon has announced that it is working with Look & Listen music stores in order to bring reasonably priced digital music downloads to South African music fans.
This new opportunity will see music tracks being offered via Look & Listen’s new MP3 download service at the affordable price of R2 per track. The deal, which was launched yesterday, will last for 24 hours and further deals will then become available.
According to the company the surprising absence of an online music store in South Africa has meant that the local music buying market, relies only on physical outlets as their music providers.
Internationally though, easy access to online stores the likes of Amazon and iTunes, means that consumers rarely visit a physical music store, with the majority of music and DVD purchases now being conducted online.
Because of this deal, local music fans will now also be able to have easily accessible, varied, practical and more affordable options when buying music. Groupon also stated that the deal will be assisting in reducing the illegal downloading of music.
“Look & Listen have made a really intelligent move here; it’s way past time that South Africa caught up with the rest of the world’s music industry. So to help this go forward as best we can, offering the best deals we can is simply a logical move, and an opportunity we’re excited to help make available,” said Daniel Guasco, joint CEO of Groupon.
“We hope to continue to work in conjunction with Look & Listen, to ensure that the public gets the best music deals possible.”
