Earlier this month the world's legion of plastic guitar wielding gamers were outraged when Activision announced the end of its once popular Guitar Hero franchise, as well as the death of sister series DJ Hero.

The publisher then stated that this month's Guitar Hero DLC release would be the last, saying it “will not be able to release new DLC packs” going forward.

Now however, it seems that the series may be able to enjoy one final encore thanks to the devotion of fans, and a little money making incentive from Activision.

According to CVG, after seeing the huge fallout from fans following the cancellation announcement, Activision posted the following statement on the Guitar Hero Facebook page, “Thank you for being a part of this community and all 3 MILLION of you rock! In thanks for your continued support, we've decided to celebrate by releasing some more downloadable content. Details coming soon...”

This statement was repeated on both the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero Twitter feeds, signalling that bonus DLC are on the way for both series.

The sudden Guitar Hero revival seems oddly reminiscent of producers seeing boosts in album sales after the demise of popular artists. Maybe Activision had this all planned out from the start?
