HTC EVO 3D now available in SA
By Ryan Noik 14 November 2011 | Categories: newsHTC today announced that the HTC EVO 3D, which was promised earlier this year, is now available in South Africa. Just like LG’s Optimus 3D (review here), the device boasts a stereoscopic display that does not require 3D glasses.
The EVO 3D, which features a 4.3” qHD (540 x 960) screen, also packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and of course HTC’s Sense interface. This though, has been complemented by 3D menus, along with a customisable active lockscreen.
The company explained that this is intended to serve as the “real-time window” to users’ most important content, such as photos and social network feeds.
“Whether it’s email, social networking or surfing the internet, the active lockscreen becomes a customisable gateway that lets you instantly jump to your favourite applications with just one gesture,” the company elaborated.

3D image capture
The phone features two 5-megapixel cameras, which can capture 2D and 3D images, as well as
video at 720p resolution, up to 30 frames per second.
Additionally, the onboard cameras boast a rather impressive f/2.2 maximum aperture, which should make photographing in low light a lot more feasible. An integrated tilt-shift effect further enables users to selectively blur parts of a scene, giving subjects the appearance of being scale models.
“Smartphones have revolutionised how people communicate and entertain themselves on the move. You can now carry your favourite films, music, photos and games in your pocket wherever you go,” said Florian Seiche, president of HTC EMEA.

“The HTC EVO 3D allows people to explore this new technology trend beyond the living room, enabling them to capture and share their lives with family and friends in amazing 3D.” The HTC EVO 3D has an RRP of R6888.
In recent news, HTC announced which of its phones will be receiving the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update.
