Taiwanese smartphone and tablet maker HTC seems to be going from strength to strength. According to Reuters the company reported consolidated sales of 45.11 billion Taiwan dollars (around R10.7 billion) on Friday, which a 83.3% year-on-year increase.

The company is already putting this money to use, as it also announced that it has acquired  Seattle-based Dashwire, which created the cloud-based Dashworks platform for mobile and web applications. This platform allows users to easily setup and personalise their smartphones, in order to seamlessly access their mobile content across multiple screens as well as services.  Dashwire will now, like S3 Graphics, become a wholly owned subsidiary of HTC.

"Cloud services are key to delivering the promise of connected services to our customers," said Fred Liu, president of engineering and operations, HTC Corporation. "People want access to all of their important content wherever they are on any device. The addition of Dashwire's cutting-edge sync services and deep mobile cloud experience strengthens our ability to deliver these services in a more powerful way."

HTC will be employing Dashwire's cloud sync and device setup products, to extend the HTCSense.com cloud services which the company launched last year. The financial terms of the deal were not provided.

"Dashwire was founded with the conviction that mobile cloud services would fundamentally change how people create, connect with and share their content across their devices," said Ford Davidson, founder and CEO of Dashwire. "HTC shares the mobile cloud computing vision with Dashwire which makes it exciting for us to be joining the HTC family to drive even more innovation in this space."

Not everything is going HTC’s way though, as the company also recently stated that its open to striking a patent deal with Apple, after it lost its first major battle in its patent war with the Cupertino-based iPhone and iPad maker.

In related news Microsoft is reportedly making three times as much money from Android as it is making from its own Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system (OS). This is due to the royalties it is obtaining from the sale of HTC’s Android-powered smartphones, because of its patent licensing agreement with the Taiwanese company.
