Incredible Connection wants your old electronics
By Staff Writer 15 February 2012 | Categories: newsThose who don’t quite know what to do with old printers, CRT monitors and keyboards lying around, might want to head over to their nearest Incredible Connection. The company’s annual Trade-in promotion kicks off tomorrow (16 February 2012) with tonnes of e-waste expected to be collected.
During the month there will be weekly promotions running where customers are encouraged to bring in their old technology equipment and receive discounts on selected new products.
The traded-in equipment is assessed and if in workable condition is refurbished and distributed to schools and non-profit organisations. The rest of the e-waste is recycled by Incredible Connection’s ISO certified recycling partners, Desco Electronic Recyclers.
Last year’s Trade-in managed to collect 106 tonnes of e-waste, with 60 PCs and 60 monitors recovered and refurbished and subsequently donated.
The initiative is part of Incredible Connection’s commitment to alleviating harm to the environment. If not disposed of responsibly, e-waste can leach toxic contaminants into the environment and cause health problems for anyone who comes into contact with them.
“As a key player in the sale of technology we have a role to play in raising awareness about the correct disposal of e-waste and through our Trade-in promotion, we want to encourage customers to clean out all their old and outdated equipment to avoid it ending up in the normal garbage collection,” says Stefan Marnewick, Incredible Connection’s acting Chief Executive.
“Old equipment uses more electricity than the newer generation of products thus upgrading to new technology also helps in conserving energy.”
