As Thanksgiving weekend, the busiest shopping weekend on the US calender, came to a close, big players in the gaming field are bragging with some hefty sales numbers.

According to CVG, Microsoft is leading the pack, proudly announcing that its motion control peripheral, Kinect, has sold 2.5 million units worldwide in its first 25 days on the market. The motion sensing gaming system has seen a huge amount of interest, just like the Microsoft marketing gurus predicted before its launch.

The success is good news for the giant company's Xbox department as Microsoft reportedly spent as much as $500 million in the marketing campaign for the peripheral. Microsoft also announced that it's on track to sell five million Kinect's by the end of the year, in line with its previously announced targets.

The Kinect launched on the 4th of November in the US and made its South African debut on the 10th of November. The peripheral, which includes a full body motion sensing camera retails for a recommended R1999 and comes bundled with the Kinect Adventures game, one of 17 games released for the peripheral during this month.

The Kinect is looking very strong at the moment, outselling Sony's Move motion controller by quite a stretch (it took 30 days to sell 1 million Moves, while only 10 days for as many Kinects). The Kinect is also sure to be at the top of many Christmas lists, so for Microsoft at least, tis' the season to be jolly.
