LG 3D TVs arrive next month
By Hanleigh Daniels 28 May 2010 | Categories: newsLG SA has launched what they call the first full LED 3D TV in SA. The slim and stylish LX9500 3D television is available in 55" and 47" models and come bundled with two pairs of 3D shutter glasses. It forms part of LG's Infinia LED TV range, which also include the LE8500 and the LE7500.
Unlike Samsung’s 3D TV offerings, LG’s sets don’t contain 2D to 3D conversion, where regular content is enhance to look 3D. How much of a problem this will be for SA consumers is to be seen. Although 2D to 3D conversion might not be near anything true 3D can offer, 3D content currently seems few and far between, since MultiChoice is not immediately willing to commit to 3D broadcasts.
The new sets employ blur-free TruMotion 400 Hz performance which should help minimize motion blur during sport or action sequences. LG gave the TVs an extremely narrow 16 mm bezel, which we thought puts the LGs, at least stylistically, in a class of their own. A massive 10 000 000:1 contrast ratio ensures that black is black, while LED panels situated behind the screen ensure brightness and clarity (apparently the 55" model boasts 1200 LEDs).
Extra 3D shutter glasses for the LX9500 will retail for about R1 000 a pair, and they'll be USB rechargeable, with a viewing time of approximately 40 hours.

LG’s LX9500 will be available in South Africa during June at selected retail outlets, with no word on a definite price.
“No new technology promises to transform the world of home entertainment like 3D does. More than just a technological advancement, 3D could change the whole way we experience TV,” said Dr. Michelle Potgieter, marketing director for LG Electronics South Africa. “With its astonishing Full LED picture quality, coming with even more LED chips and unbeatable brightness, LG’s 3D TVs provides the perfect platform for 3D, where people can really be a part of the action.”
