LG unveils Optimus 3D Max
By Hanleigh Daniels 23 February 2012 | Categories: newsAfter unveiling its Optimus Vu smartphone/ tablet hybrid as well as a trio of “LStyle” smartphones, LG reveals the follow-up to the Optimus 3D, in the Optimus 3D Max, to be showcased at the forthcoming 2012 Mobile World Congress (MWC).
This smartphone boasts a 4.3" 3D WVGA display that is protected by Corning Gorilla glass and delivers a glasses-free 3D viewing experience with 3D Hot Key to switch between 2D and 3D. As with the original Optimus 3D, users are able to capture 3D photos and videos via the rear-facing 5 MP dual-lens snapper and view these on the phone’s 4.3" display.
LG’s Optimus 3D Max is powered by a faster 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4430 dual-core processor, compared to the Optimus 3D’s dual-core 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 CPU. It has Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) handling the operating, with an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update already in the works.
The thinner (9.6 mm compared to the Optimus 3D’s 11.9 mm profile) 3D Max smartphone also offer much more internal storage space (8 GB) compared to 512 MB available on its predecessor, 1 GB of RAM, quicker HSPA+ (21 Mbps) connectivity compared to the 14.4 Mbps download speeds of the Optimus 3D, and support for LG Tag+ NFC (near field communication) capabilities.
LG’s Optimus 3D Max will first launch in the company’s home turf of Korea next month and will gradually be rolled out to other markets starting in Europe. No local release info is available yet.
