LaCie unveils new super fast USB 3.0 drivesBy Johan Keyter 19 November 2010 | Categories: news
LaCie yesterday unveiled its newest and smallest SSD USB 3.0 drive, the LaCie FastKey, delivering data transfer speeds of up to 260 MB/s.
LaCie claims the stylish and super compact device can transfer 1000 MP3 files or five DIVX video files in less than 60 seconds. The FastKey device already outperforms USB 2.0 by up to ten times, but its peak performance is much higher than that thanks to a combination of SSD, USB 3.0 and DRAM cache technology. LaCie claims the device can write small files up to 100 times faster than your average USB 2.0 drive.
“With most flash drives, transferring a large number of photos and mp3 files can take a few minutes,” said Luc Pierart, business unit manager, personal storage, LaCie. “With the FastKey, transferring small files is immediate. You can back up or share your music and photo libraries as you head out the door.”
The device utilises highly robust solid-state flash technology and is protected by a sturdy aluminium casing. The top-of-the-range Lacie FastKey also packs an insane 120 GB's of data storage space, amazing for such a small device.
The FastKey also includes AES 256-bit encryption so you can keep your data secured at all times. And to sweeten the deal even more, the LaCie FastKey comes with 4 GB of secure online storage from Wuala.
The device is available in 30, 60 and 120 GB capacities and can be ordered through the LaCie online store starting at $149.99 (around R1050).
