Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1 lands in South Africa
By Staff Writer 1 September 2011 | Categories: newsLenovo’s IdeaPad Tablet K1 has joined the ever growing list of 10” Android-based devices available in SA. Announced earlier this year in June, the consumer focused K1 will be available starting today, at selected retail outlets in South Africa.
The Tablet K1 is Lenovo’s first mobile internet device featuring the Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) platform. Powering this device is the award winning Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core mobile processor that offer extreme multitasking, faster web browsing with built-in Flash, console-quality gaming, and low power consumption for improved battery life. It’s the brains behind a number of tablets, including the Motorola Xoom, the Asus Slider and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Open the box and play
Weighing 740 g, the highly mobile IdeaPad Tablet K1 features an HD display (1280 x 800 like most other Android tablets), dual cameras (two-megapixel front-facing and a five-megapixel rear-facing) and integrated Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity. Unique to the IdeaPad Tablet K1 is a ‘Home’ button and the Lenovo ‘Launch Zone’ application to help users easily access their most frequent functions such as email, music and web browsing.
Out of the box, the K1 is preloaded with more than 30 apps, including Angry Birds HD, a full-version of Documents to Go, Need for Speed Shift HD, Warships, Slacker and Amazon Kindle. Users also have access to an entire network of friends and social sites all in one place, thanks to Lenovo's exclusive SocialTouch app, which effectively creates a one-stop social connection.

As far as ports are concerned a mini HDMI connection is found on the side (but no cable included in the box), while a difficult-to-pull-out microSD card slot is also present to expand the onboard memory. Talking of which, for now only 64 GB versions are available, with other configurations coming in December. Users can sync, store and share files, music and photos with 2 GB of free cloud storage.
In addition to the thousands of apps available at the Android Market, Lenovo tablet users have access to apps in the Lenovo App Shop, which features popular applications that have been tested specifically for Lenovo IdeaPad tablet. The Lenovo App Shop offers apps within a broad range of categories including music, movies, books, productivity, social networking, weather, printing and more.
“Tablets are extremely personal technology devices. That’s why we’ve created a family of tablets that has something for everyone, including entertainment-friendly features and content for consumers, or business-friendly features to enhance productivity for professionals as well as security and manageability for IT Managers,” said Henry Ferreira, Lenovo South Africa country manager.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1 32 GB version is on offer for R3999.
