MTN has launched its latest mobile application known as MTN Traveller, which is a mobi-based MTN Play application allowing users to do online booking for accommodation and car rental, with airline booking services on the way as well.

This application enables users to search, select and purchase their travel selections by employing their cell phones, irrespective of the network that they are prescribed to via a secure, ‘real time’ payment gateway.

“We are putting the power into our customers’ hands with regards to travel and lifestyle choices, using a simple URL application available as a download through MTN Play,” said MTN chief marketing officer Serame Taukobong. “And, the beauty of this product is that as a web-enabled application, it can be accessed through any web-based handset, on any network and at no cost to the user.”

The MTN Traveller solution interfaces with the eRes software solution, which is developed by HTI (Hospitality Technology International) Systems and is hosted on the MobiRes platform.

“Basically, the URL is a user-friendly, dedicated and dynamic live search and reservation engine that can be accessed anywhere, at anytime and on any network,” stated Fraser Gregg, managing director of MobiRes. “We have centralised the data from numerous channels and integrated it into a fully-interactive booking engine.”

“Using the system is as simple as clicking on the MTN Traveller icon on the cell phone screen, registering for the service, going into the menu to make a choice and uploading credit card details to confirm the booking. The mobilisation of the system ensures that finding and booking accommodation – whether it’s a small guesthouse in a remote part of the West Coast or a business hotel in the heart of Sandton – is just a few clicks away, making mobile e-commerce tourism the most efficient and secure channel to the hospitality market place.”

The service will go live for the general public on 7 November 2010.
