In a little more than a day’s time you will be able to customise you Facebook profile in a more meaningful way that ever before.

While Facebook is all about sharing who you are with friends, for a long time user profile pages were assigned a URL with a random numeric ID. Just lookup your profile page’s URL in the address bar of your browser– you’ll notice that you are just an arbitrary combination of digits.

Well, no more will you have to endure being just a number. As of Saturday, 13 June 2009, users will be able to choose a username, on a first-come, first-serve basis, that will form part of their URL, for instance http://www.facebook.com/real.person.

Note, however, once you have chosen your name you won’t be able to change or transfer it. So be sure to choose something you can live with.
