Nvidia has announced another addition to its Fermi-class of graphics processing units (GPUs), the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460, a DirectX 11 graphics card aimed at the midrange gaming PCs.
 
It sports 336 Nvidia CUDA cores and 56 texture units and comes in two types, a GTX 460 768 MB that possesses a 192-bit memory interface at an estimated retail price of $199 (around R1 500) and a GTX 460 1 GB with a 256-bit memory interface at an estimated US price of $229 (about R1 740).
 
The GTX 460 features full support for Nvidia 3D Vision technology enabling it to deliver games as well as high-definition Blu-ray movies in stereoscopic 3D and full 1080p HD. According to Nvidia the GTX 460 is able to handle the most demanding Direct X 11 gaming titles at a 1920 x 1200 resolution and compared to the GeForce 8800 GT delivers 4.5 times the geometry horsepower and up to 2.6 times the gaming performance.
 
The GeForce GTX 460 768 MB version is already available and the GeForce GTX 460 1 GB is expected by 26 July. Local pricing and availability details haven’t been released yet.
