LG Electronics today announced that it will introduce a powerful new Nvidia Tegra mobile processor to its next generation of Optimus smartphones.

The processor that is going to be used is the new Tegra 2, the world's first dual-core mobile CPU. With two 1 GHz processors doing the work, the Tegra 2 will have 3D capabilities, and with a Nvidia Geforce GPU also onboard it is capable of 1080p high definition (HD) video playback.

“LG is committed to making its Optimus Series smart devices the de facto standard in speed and graphics performance,” said Chang Ma, vice president of marketing strategy at LG.

We’ll have to see how the Tegra 2 and their claims stack up to the Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processors which has a clock speed of 1.2 GHz.

The phone's will debut in the fourth quarter of 2010, no information on local release dates is available as of yet.
