Nokia World Gaze sees planet in 3D
By Hanleigh Daniels 4 July 2011 | Categories: newsA new “mixed reality” app from Nokia, dubbed Nokia 3D World Gaze, enables users to obtain a new 3D perspective as well as detailed info about our planet.
3D World Gaze (video posted below) allows Symbian users to see right through the surface of the planet, all the way to the other side of the globe. Users can simply point their smartphone in any direction and their device will employ its built-in compass and GPS receiver in order to display geographical information about their surrounding cities.
This information includes aspects such as the history of a place and famous sites to visit close by, collected from services such as panoramio.com, wikinews.org, wikipedia.org and geonames.org.
Seeing that this app retrieves data from various online sources, users will need to be mindful that it will contribute to their data download bill at the end of the month. Nokia 3D World Gaze is available for the Nokia N8, Nokia C6-01, Nokia E7, Nokia C7, Nokia E6 and Nokia X7 from Nokia Beta Labs for free.
Last month Nokia introduced its own BBM-type instant messaging program called IM for Nokia, allowing users to connect to their friends, colleagues and family members over Wi-Fi or 3G via the company’s own instant messaging client.
