The latest chapter in the Apple versus Nokia saga sees the Finnish manufacturer announcing that it has filed a lawsuit against Apple for allegedly infringing upon five of its copyrights.
 
The lawsuit that the world’s biggest cellphone maker filed with the Federal District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin, claims that Cupertino’s iPhone as well as the iPad 3G violates five of its patents. These patents have to do with technologies for enhanced speech as well as data transmission, employing positioning data in apps and advancements in antenna configurations that contribute to smaller and more compact devices. In the same statement Nokia stated that during the last two decades it has invested around € 40 billion (almost R390 billion) in research and development that saw it building up a library of over 11 000 patents.
 
“Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in mobile devices”, said Paul Melin, general manager of patent licensing at Nokia. “We have taken this step to protect the results of our pioneering development and to put an end to continued unlawful use of Nokia’s innovation.”
