After pulling the wraps off of its range topping graphics processing unit (GPU) behemoth, the GeForce GTX 690, Nvidia unveils the third GPU based on its next-generation Kepler 28-nanometer graphics architecture, the GeForce GTX 670.

This GPU boasts 1344 CUDA cores, 2 GB of GDDR5 graphics memory, a graphics clock of 915 MHz and processor clock speed amounting to 980 MHz.

According to Nvidia, the GeForce GTX 670 will outperform its nearest rival product, AMD’s  Radeon HD 7950, in terms of gaming performance by more than 45%. This, whilst the GTX 670 (170 watts) consumes about 18% less power compared to the Radeon 7950 (200 watts).

Nvidia stated that the GeForce GTX 670 GPU is available now for a recommended retail price starting at $399 (around R3195) in the US, from add-in card suppliers the likes of Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI and Palit. No local release info is available yet.

In related news, AMD recently announced two new additions to its 28 nm Radeon HD GPU line-up, namely the Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition and the Radeon HD 7850 graphics cards.
