Opera Mobile 10.1 for Symbian released
By Hanleigh Daniels 24 November 2010 | Categories: newsOpera Software today released the final version of Opera Mobile 10.1 for Symbian running mobile phones, boasting significantly faster JavaScript performance.
This final version employs the just-in-time compilation (JIT) performance optimisation to the company’s Carakan JavaScript engine, which is the same one used in its desktop browser, with the company claiming a speed performance boost of nine times over that of Opera Mobile 10.0 on the SunSpider JavaScript test.
The latest mobile browser now also supports geolocation functionality, which enables web services such as maps and travel applications to recognise a user’s location. It will then provide them with customised content relevant to their location. If a user is concerned over privacy then they can opt not to have Opera Mobile share their location.
“Powerful smartphones deserve an equally powerful browser,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “Opera Mobile 10.1 today brings the best mobile browsing experience to the world’s most popular smartphone platform.”
The latest version of Opera Mobile for Symbian also includes features such as tabbed browsing, a password manager, kinetic scrolling, as well as auto-rotation to landscape.
Opera Mobile 10.1 is now available for download to smartphones operating on Symbian^3, such as the Nokia N8, as well as those running Symbian S60 3rd and 5th editions, the likes of the Nokia N97 mini.
