After Samsung announced yesterday that their Galaxy Tab will be available in SA before Xmas, Vodacom today stated that the Galaxy Tab is now available on their network. The device sells for R8499 including VAT and is available on contract starting from R379 per month inclusive of data from any participating Vodacom outlet.

“The Samsung Galaxy Tab has been especially designed for users who want to maximise satisfaction of a tablet PC while retaining utmost portability – it certainly takes multitasking to new heights,” said Shameel Joosub, Vodacom SA managing director.

The Galaxy Tab is one of the first commercially available tablets in SA and uses the latest Android operating system (2.2/ Froyo) for optimal performance. It is compact, slim and light (385g) making it easy to carry.

Samsung's tablet offers a variety of communication methods including 3G HSDPA and HSUPA, 802.11n Wi-Fi, a USB 2.0 connection and Bluetooth 3.0. The company promises that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will come in handy as a speakerphone for conferencing and a mobile phone for people on the move.

It also sports two cameras, a front facing camera to allow face-to-face video telephony over 3G and a rear-facing camera to capture still images and video that you can edit, upload and share.

The device has sold over 600 000 units in Europe and the US.
