Let's face it - the standard recorded voice on your satellite navigation unit is a bit boring. If you don’t want to opt for a GPS sporting the voice of your favourite celebrity, such as the Blue Bulls TomTom Start, then Nokia offers you another alternative. Own Voice for Ovi Maps allows you to record and share your own navigation instructions for Ovi Maps, directly from your Nokia cellphone.

All you have to do is download (0.47 MB) the free Own Voice app from the Ovi Store, which will enable you to create a new voice pack. It will take you through all the required steps, starting with recording every one of the 53 required commands, such as “You have reached your destination” and “Turn left in 200m”. As soon as you’re done recording, you just add your name, hit save and the voice pack will be uploaded to the Own Voice website.

The Own Voice app also allows users to browse for new voice packs by popularity or recommendation, as well as allowing you to share your own voice pack with your friends, family or everyone else. You can share voice packs by Facebook and Twitter and rate them as well.
