Rumours are beginning to circulate that Blackberry holding company Research in Motion (RIM) may be developing a tablet PC of its own which it will position to take on Apple’s iPad.

According to Reuters the company intends to release the device in November, just in time for the festive rush, and will reportedly label it as the ‘Blackpad’. It is also expected to have the same dimensions as the iPad and will retail for $499.

None of this however has been confirmed by executives at RIM. Although it seems likely that the company will be looking towards jumping on the tablet PC bandwagon, it seems doubtful that the company would opt for a title as obvious as the ‘Blackpad’.

If the rumours prove true then the technology community will see RIM joining a veritable throng of companies who are looking to follow in Apple’s footsteps, hoping to capture a segment of this lucrative new market.
