Samsung Electronics has announced the local launch of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, which is available in South Africa at a recommended retail price of around R5999 or on an MTN Anytime 100 Package for R239 per month. This includes 75 MB of data per month over the 24 month contract period. 

This tablet operates on the latest version of Google’s Android Honeycomb (3.2) and like the Galaxy SII smartphone it is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core application processor (make not specified). The smaller brother to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 measures 193.65 x 122.37 x 9.96 mm and tips the scale at 345 g. It boasts a 7" (600 x 1024) WSVGA PLS capacitive display allowing for full HD (1080p) video playback at 30 fps, 1 GB of RAM, a rear-facing 3 MP auto-focus camera capable of HD-ready (720p) video recording, as well as a front-facing 2 MP snapper.

Regarding storage space, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus sports 16 GB of internal storage and users can expand on this via a microSD memory card slot that takes cards up to 32 GB in size. Also onboard is 802.11 n Wi-Fi plus Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth v3.0, USB 2.0 Host capability, HSPA+ (21 Mbps) connectivity, a-GPS and Polaris Office enabling users to create and edit presentations, spreadsheets and Word documents.

In related news Samsung also recently announced that its Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) running Galaxy Nexus smartphone should be arriving early next year, retailing for between R6999 and R7299. The Korean tech giant also revealed that it has achieved an annual handset sales figure of over 300 million handsets for the first time.
