The rumour mill keeps churning today as news leaked that God of War 4 is indeed on the way, and that the popular game is scheduled for a September 2012 release.

This according to CVG, citing an article in the latest issue of the unofficial PlayStation magazine, PSM3. It’s good news indeed since the God of War trilogy was thought complete after God of War III's highly praised 2010 release.

Developers Santa Monica Studio has since said that the third game was not to be the end of the series, and now it appears that the studio is indeed working on the fourth title.

PSM3 reports in its latest issue “PSM3 has heard from another source that God of War 4 is coming, and will hit in September 2012. Our source works closely with the God of War universe, and let slip he'd be working on a related project at the same time.”

We previously reported on Santa Monica Studios looking for a senior programmer to help in what seems to be creating a brand new multiplayer aspect for the upcoming game.

Fans of Kratos and his legendary struggle with the Gods will be delighted with the news, but the question remains how exactly the story will continue given the ending of God of War III, which won’t be spoiled here.
