Reports that Sony intends to develop a PSP device with mobile voice and video chat capabilities surfaced over the weekend.

According to the Nikkei business daily Sony is looking to setup a project team as early as July to develop the convergence device, reports Reuters.

The company will be looking to Ericsson, its Swedish based partner in the Sony Ericsson venture, to help develop mobile phone capabilities into its portable gaming console.
This isn\'t the first time rumours have circulated about a potential convergence gadget either, Sony already having filed a patent for such a device in 2007.

The move towards such a device makes a lot of sense for Sony considering that more than 8 billion requests for application downloads were served by AdMob, the world’s largest mobile advertising marketplace, in May this year alone. More than 30% of those request were made by iPhone users.
