Sony Electronics has announced its latest line of notebooks, the VAIO C Series. This new range is powered by a second generation Intel Core i5 CPU, with some of the models in the series boasting a Blu-ray Disc drive, as well as an AMD Radeon 1 GB Hybrid graphics processing unit (AMD Radeon HD 6630).

Light up your life

Breaking away from conventional colour schemes, Sony’s new notebooks are brightly coloured in eye-blinding Neon Orange and Neon Green. The new models also emit light around the edges of the notebook, the VAIO logo, as well as around the touchpad.

Two display sizes are available, the CA10 that sports a 14" LED-backlit LCD wide-screen display and a CB10 featuring a 15.5" LED-backlit LCD wide-screen display. There is also the option of having your chosen display boast a resolution of up to Full HD (1080p).

All models incorporate backlit keyboards, a built-in HD web camera that utilises an “Exmor” sensor to allow for good performance even in low-light conditions and a built-in microphone to voice- or video chat with family, friends and colleagues.

Besides the Exmor sensor, the webcam also sports face tracking technology, enabling it to automatically adjust the focus and follow you as you move around while video chatting.

Shortcuts and software

Also on-board is one-touch VAIO, ASSIST and WEB buttons, enabling users to launch the Media Gallery software, VAIO Care software as well as access to the web without full boot-up into Windows.

Sony’s Imagination Studio Suite 2 VAIO Edition, which combines five applications allowing users to enhance and share their multimedia content, is also included. Amongst other functionality this software provides users with the ability to put together stylish movies by employing Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum and create their own music or mash-ups via Acid Music Studio.

Remote Keyboard, which allows users to wirelessly pair their VAIO computer’s keyboard and touchpad with a multitude of Sony connected devices, is also available. Users will be able to navigate menus and options within their PlayStation 3 (PS3) consoles for example via their notebook.

“The new VAIO C Series delivers an extraordinary design with new, vivid materials,” said Mike Lucas, senior vice president of the Networked Technologies and Services Division at Sony Electronics.

“Combined with premium performance and features, as well as enhanced with Sony Imagination Studio, C Series users can be entertained and show off their creative side.”

The VAIO C Series notebooks will be available this spring (autumn for us) in the US starting at around $880 (approx. R6275). No local release info is available yet.
