Stream TV Networks yesterday revealed its new eLocity A7 mobile tablet and announced that for the initial launch period it would be sold exclusively on Amazon.com.

Shying away from other tablet manufacturers glamorous launch events, pre-orders for the 7” Android 2.2 tablet started online yesterday.

“We are elated that Amazon.com has teamed up with us to offer eLocity brand tablets to its customers. We know Amazon's electronics store is one of the first places customers turn to for product information and customer services. We believe that our tablet is a worthy competitor to the iPad and, we expect to exceed sales targets,” said Mathu Rajan, CEO of Stream TV.

Equipped with an Nvidia Tegra II processor the tablet is said to be capable of 1080p high definition (HD) playback. It also has micro SD and USB slots to ease the transfer of data, whether it be photos from a digital camera or videos from a portable hard drive.

Featuring a high resolution 7” capacitative and multi-touch display and running on the Android 2.2 operating system, the eLocity A7 is available for pre-order through Amazon.com.

It is selling for $369.99 on Amazon at the moment which translates to roughly R2700. Compare this to R7000 and more for a 16 GB Apple iPad and the price difference becomes evident.
