Swype for Symbian announced
By Hanleigh Daniels 2 September 2010 | Categories: newsNokia will be introducing a new piece of software technology to Symbian S60 5th edition devices that will boost users’ texting speed.
Swype for Symbian is now available from the Nokia beta labs. This software enables users to swipe their fingers across the phone’s display instead of tapping on each individual letter.
Users simply move their fingers from letter to letter in order to spell out the complete word. Swype also follows the input path and then adds the most likely word and provides a selection of the most likely words when their can be multiple possibilities.
This clever software hails from a Seattle-based company that was founded by Cliff Kushler (co-inventor of the T9 predictive text system used on over 2.4 billion phones across the globe) and Randy Marsden.
The beta release of Swype is supported on the following S60 5th edition touch-screen devices, Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic, Nokia 5230, Nokia N97, N97mini as well as the Nokia X6.
