It seems that after the recent court case they lost, the owners of The Pirate Bay have been scouring the high-seas, not for potential booty, instead for a potential buyer.

Today it was announced that The Pirate Bay has been sold for a so-so R60 million. The new owners are Global Gaming Factory X AB (GGF), a Swedish software company.
GGF will use The Pirate Bay to launch new business models that will allow appropriate compensation to content providers and copyright owners. So in the near future

expect the freebies you got from The Pirate Bay all but gone.
Hans Pandeya, CEO of GGF, says: “Content creators and providers need to control their content and get paid for it. File sharers ´need faster downloads and better

quality.” True, but Pandeya might not be taking into account that file sharers quite like the free booty The Pirate Bay so conveniently provided. A blog post on The

Pirate Bay announced the sale, with the Pirates having this to say: “The profits from the sale will go into a foundation that is going to help with projects about

freedom of speech, freedom of information and the openess of the nets. I hope everybody will help out in that and realize that this is the best option for all.” They

added “Don’t worry – be happy!”, but left out “Arrrrr”.
