GPS has found its way into every sphere of life. You can’t leave the house these days without consulting some form of GPS navigation. So it will come as no surprise to cycling enthusiasts that Garmin has brought out the Edge range of GPS-enabled cycle computers.
The Edge 705 is more than just a small GPS unit that fits onto your bicycle. It has turn-by-turn routing capability and mapping display. The display allows you to view all your directions and data, even in bright sunlight. For the very serious enthusiast, the Edge incorporates a barometric altimeter that measures changes in elevation and incorporates a high-sensitivity receiver that holds a signal under trees and near tall buildings. The Edge 705 automatically measures your speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, and records this data for analysis after your ride. You can then upload all your ride data to Garmin’s network of outdoor enthusiasts called Garmin Connect.
