Having bought a netbook for the mobility it affords you, you naturally now find that you want a larger display to browse the web or watch videos on when you’re not on the go. Thankfully manufacturers view fickle consumers as opportunities. LG’s new W1930S secondary notebook/ netbook monitor is an ideal example.

Technical stuff

With a decent 18.5" screen, the monitor doesn’t rest on a stand but on your desk, with a kickstand which allows you to tilt the monitor between 10º and 30º. This means that the monitor stands at roughly the same height as your notebook’s display and can tilt in a similar fashion, which makes switching between the two or working on both simultaneously adjustment free.

The W1930S also offers a 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, 30 000: 1 and 5 ms response time, which translates to a decent display. Don’t expect to buy it as a primary monitor though if you want more connection options than a single D-sub port. If you're looking for something a little snazzier in the same display catagory check out Samsung's LD220G Lapfit monitor.

The look

The W1930S comes in a range of colours including black, blue and pink. Only the monitor’s bezel is coloured though, with the unit’s back case left white. Looking past the colours, the monitor is fairly standard, with the usual compliment of hardware buttons (power, menu, auto/set and adjust up or down) and basic branding.

The LG W1930S is a useful secondary monitor for notebook users. It doesn’t offer any bells and whistles; it just gets the job done and adds a little colour to your desk.

PROS
The kickstand design makes it an ideal secondary notebook monitor.
CONS
It only offers a single D-sub connection.
