The Leap Motion controller aims to enhance PC and notebook users’ experience through intuitive gesture recognition. It shows plenty of potential, but ultimately needs a stronger developer ecosystem.
PROS
Fantastic for enhancing gaming experience
CONS
Lacks functionality for actual computing; Does not replace the capacity of a trackpad or mouse; Slightly expensive
VERDICT
When put in perspective, there is very little fault to find in the Leap Motion, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that there are no true competitors to compare it to. With that being said there are two concerns we found with the Leap Motion, one was its decreased level of motion sensing accuracy given extended periods of non-use. The second is its price, listed to retail at R1 300, which seems a little steep and prompts those sitting on the fence to shy away from purchasing it.
