In December last year, Microsoft decided to end its 15 GB worth of free OneDrive storage. Understandably, users were not pleased with this announcement, which forced Microsoft to review the change altogether. Instead of doing away with free OneDrive storage completely, the company opted to scale it back from 15 GB to 5 GB. There were, however, a few caveats.  

To that end, if any current user had opted into the service prior to 31 January 2106, they had full access to all 15 GB of the online storage capacity. Today however, those users who failed to do so will only receive 5 GB of free storage. As such, the free OneDrive storage capacity is only limited to those users who were signed into the service prior to the 31 January midnight cut-off time. Any user trying to claim free storage from here on in, will not be able to do so.
