Still known as Android N at the the time, we saw Google demo some of the new features of Nougat at Google I/O in May this year. It was after the event that Google asked fans to submit names via a crowdsourcing site, but it would appear as if Google were always going to play it safe, rather than picking some of the weirder suggestions, such as Norwegian Smoked Salmon.
For now, we only have an official name, with a release date yet to be confirmed. What we do know however, is that Android Nougat will also support Google's Daydream VR platform, should your device meet certain specifications.
