Pacific Rim 2 slated for February 2018 release date
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 1 July 2016 | Categories: newsGuillermo del Toro's 2013 ode to Kaiju and massive monster movies, Pacific Rim, did not do too well in the United States. It grossed a little over $101 million, which is quite a distance behind its estimated $190 production budget. The movie's saving grace, however, was Asia, which contributed three times as much as the US mark, giving the film a solid $411 million in earnings globally. That was enough to get the green light for a sequel, and now we have a release date for Pacific Rim 2. According to The Wrap, the film is slated for release on 23 February 2018, which is still some many, many months away.
Unfortunately, del Toro will not be behind the camera this time round, instead handing duties over to Daredevil TV series head writer Steven S. DeKnight. Also joining the Kaiju and Jaeger (giant robots), is John Boyega (Finn in The Force Awakens), although his role has not been fully detailed.
While some people did not enjoy the first film all that much, we definitely did, and will be putting our money on an awesome sequel.
