Over the past few years, Apple has opted to try its hand at creating its own processors for the iPhone and iPad, shying away from the Intel versions they used previously. Based on ARM's architecture, the Cupertino-manufacturer's new chips have performed well, helping their mobile devices perform faster and more efficiently.

Now, Bloomberg reports that Apple is considering doing the same for Mac, with a ARM-based chip said to be in the works.

According to Bloomberg, one of the major benefits that an Apple processor for Mac would bring, is increase battery life by offloading the Power Nap feature found on the Intel chip. Power Nap allows the Mac device to sync to iCloud, run software updates and download emails among other things while in sleep mode.

While an Intel processor would still play a part in the Mac device's performance, this could very well be the first step in parting ways entirely with Intel for Apple. At this stage, this remains a report, so we'll have to wait until an official statement or new device from Apple arrives sporting the ARM-based chip.
