If you were about to purchase that gorgeous LG 5K UltraFine monitor for your MacBook, bad luck. According to Business Insider, Apple has suspended sales of the monitor in Apple Stores, with reports noting problems including screen flickering and interference from nearby routers. The monitor was launched in spring last year alongside the new MacBook Pro, signalling an intention from Apple’s side to not produce its own screens anymore.

9to5Mac reports that Apple Stores will not be selling the LG UltraFine 5K Display, with the product pulled at LG’s request, at least until new problem-free hardware arrives. Delivery of the 5K UltraFine monitor on sales through Apple’s online store has been pushed backed 5-6 weeks.

In a statement the Korean company noted that the 5K display had performance issues caused by “signal interference when a Wi-Fi access point is positioned behind the display within a distance 0.6 m.” LG said 5K UltraFine displays manufactured after February 2017 will be fitted with enhanced shielding, which should take care of interference.

Chance Miller commenting on 9to5Mac believes this debacle should provide incentive for Apple to step back into the display business with their own products. “Maybe this LG fiasco has kick-started Apple’s own efforts to build a display. Maybe it really just doesn’t believe that’s a lucrative enough market,” he states.
