Apple to increase App Store prices in SA and others because of exchange rate
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 19 January 2016 | Categories: newsWe've all been feeling the pinch of the current dollar-rand exchange rate. Alas, it is now set to have an impact on our smart devices, with Apple announcing an upcoming change to prices of apps in the App Store come this Friday (22 January). The change will also affect in-app purchases for apps that are newly purchased after Friday, as well as those you currently have installed on your iOS device.
Along with South Africa, other countries where Apple is set to up prices include Canada, Russia, New Zealand, Singapore, Israel and Mexico. According to iMore, there is even worse news for us in South Africa and those in Russia, with users in both countries being required to re-subscribe to the App Store at a new price point. At this stage, the new pricing for re-subscribing has not been disclosed, with Apple sending an email to App developers says pricing will be updating across the various stores over the next 72 hours.
How this change in pricing will affect the quantity of purchased apps locally in coming months remains to be seen. Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below.
