Ben Heck gets the Nintendo PlayStation's CD drive to work
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 8 May 2017 | Categories: newsIf you're a gamer that has a penchant for the retro consoles, you've likely heard about the Nintendo PlayStation (aka Super NES CD-ROM). It was a gaming device that embedded a Sony developed CD drive into a version of the Nintendo SNES console, creating something that was as cool as it was weird. Unfortunately this device never truly came to fruition, with the CD drive failing to operate.
Until now, as YouTuber and professional tinkerer Ben Heckendorm (Ben Heck) recently got the CD drive on the Nintendo PlayStation to work, and play some games… kinda. The process involved new capacitors, as well as fiddling around with some of the parts. While Heck was able to get it to work, even he is a little surprised that he was able to do so, along with not being entirely sure how it happened.
To that end, anyone that has a Nintendo PlayStation in their possession may not get the same result, so we'd advise trying this with some caution. If you are interested, hit play on Heck's video below.
