Biggie Smalls and Tupac under the spotlight in City of Lies
By Staff Writer 25 May 2018 | Categories: newsMore than 20 years after the drive-by shooting of The Notorious B.I.G., his assailants still walks free. An upcoming movie, City of Lies is set to reopen old wounds, dragging the LAPD and Tupac into the debate about who killed Biggie. The movie, which has received its first trailer, is based on the investigations done by journalist Randall Sullivan as published in the book LAbyrinth, and directed by the man who bought us The Lincoln Lawyer, Brad Furman.
20 years after former LAPD detective, Russell Poole (Johnny Depp, 21 Jump Street) worked on the murder cases of both Biggie and Tupac, a journalist (Forest Whitaker, The Crying Game) approaches him to get to the bottom of the killings.
From what can be gathered from the trailer it seems like Sullivan is content to use archive footage of Biggie and Tupac, rather than opting for actors to play the part. This might not be a bad call, since who really wants to start the debate on which actor is best suited for the parts?
City of Lies is set to debut Stateside on 7 September 2018. Hit play below to see why this might be one of 2018’s most controversial movies.
