CHiPs movie receives first trailer
By Staff Writer 12 January 2017 | Categories: newsIf you remember the original CHiPs series, you are definitely giving away your age. With the TV series concluding way back in 1983, after a run of six seasons and 139 episodes, we suppose it is due for a some kind of nostalgic return. If you think, however, that the new CHiPs movie is going to be a trip down memory lane, well, you have another thing coming.
The first trailer has been released and they have amped up the both the action and comedy in this buddy cop remake. Dax Shepard (Idiocracy, which is looking more and more like a documentary in this day and age) takes over duties as Officer Jon Baker, while Officer Frank “Ponch” Poncherello is portrayed by Michael Peña (End of Watch). Our two intrepid California Highway Patrol (CHP) police officers are on the hunt for a bunch of dirty cops, with the movie both written and directed by Shepard (who is also a keen motorcyclist).
Currently it looks like the CHiPs remake can go either way, not having an awful lot in common with the original series. Then again, not many 80s shows have aged gracefully, so this is definitely a blessing in disguise.
Have a look at the trailer below to see what you think, while we’ve also included the original intro to the series. Be warned, it might just spoil your fond childhood memories.
The movie is due for release 24 March Stateside.
