Tim Moolman has captured amongst others, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and the amazing Tony Hawk. Being well versed in both action and wedding photography, we asked him to pick his favourite lens in his bag.

Tim Moolman: My Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM Wide Angle is by far my favourite lens to shoot with. Its large aperture allows me to shoot close up and still isolate a subject when shooting wide open. What I really like about my 24mm besides the beautiful large aperture is its weather sealing. Like all the Canon L series lenses I’ve used I know I can focus on shooting how and where I want to no matter what the weather chooses to throw at me. I’m not one to pixel peep or go into all the science comparing one lens’ MTF to another’s. As long as it focuses quickly, accurately, and is sharp wide open, I’m happy. The photo of my daughter below illustrates this.

The 15mm fisheye is another lens that isn’t used much at all in normal press or wedding situations and gives a unique perspective if used correctly. Like the man singing below. It also allows me to shoot the usual rad angles required for skateboard and BMX photography, and if used correctly can make a dramatic impact when shooting weddings and events.
