Canon Series: The favourite lens in my bag – Simon du Plessis
By Thomas McKinnon 22 October 2015 | Categories: newsMany of the pros featured in our Canon Series find it quite hard to pick their favourite lens. Not so for sport, bird and nature photographer, Simon du Plessis who did not hesitate to select his best.
Simon du Plessis. That’s an easy one: My Canon EF 24-105mm f4 L IS lens. It really is an all-rounder, and on my Canon EOS 1D series bodies it offers good wide-angle perspectives for landscaping and similar style shots. If you want to move closer then the lens offers a handy zoom range for pleasing portraits and general street photography, with a fast f4 maximum aperture.
But the real reason why the 24-105mm is my favourite is that it’s my go-to lens when covering the SA National Rally Championship events. I use this lens for about 99% of all my rally shots since it has the ideal zoom range for getting up close and personal to the rally action. With very fast and sharp autofocus, the lens is light and relatively compact for shooting hand held.
