Elon Musk's latest company is called Neuralink
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 28 March 2017 | Categories: newsOne would think that Elon Musk would have his hands full with SpaceX, Tesla Motors and the Hyperloop project, but the South African-born tech entrepreneur has announced yet another ambitious undertaking. Named Neuralink, it's a venture that aims to create devices that can be implanted into the human brain.
The precise end goal is not fully known, but Musk believes such devices could assist in merging software with our brains, which in turn would improve capacity for memory or interfacing more directly with computers. Looking even further, Musk has mentioned that a merger of "biological intelligence and digital intelligence" is also a possibility.
While that sounds a bit like science fiction at this stage, it's postulated that the devices implanted into a brain could help with degenerative diseases, amongst others. Such systems have been developed in the past to battle Parkinson's and the like, but have yielded a minimum amount of success to date.
At this stage not much else, besides its name and possible applications, is known about Nerualink, and it may take years and even decades before devices can be properly manufactured. As such, this is indeed one space to watch in coming years.
