Tomorrow evening, all eyes will be on Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event in New York, where the new Galaxy S8 and S8+ will make their official debut. Today though, news about one of South Korean company's less illustrious devices has been confirmed, with Samsung stating that refurbished versions of the Galaxy Note 7 will be released in the United States.

Samsung has not detailed when the refurbished phablets will land Stateside, but the company's initial plans to scrap the devices altogether seems to have changed in favour of salvaging something from the exploding battery fiasco.

This is not the first time that reports of refurbished Note 7's were made, with a Korean news outlet saying that devices would be sent to India and Vietnam. Much like that report, the devices slated for the US are said to sport smaller batteries. Samsung did, however, tell The Verge that consumers in the States will be able to either purchase or rent the Note 7's. At this stage though, Samsung says its arrival is still dependant on US regulators giving the green light.
