Reality is pliable and ever changing. Take right now for example, where it seems like since 2016 we’re on the worst timeline imaginable. Hey, at least there’s still new stuff coming out on Netflix, with Maniac slated for a 21 September debut.

Billed as a dark comedy web television miniseries, Maniac will be delivered as 30 minutes instalments. It tells the dark mirror-like tale of a drug trial gone awry, and sees the characters of Emma Stone (Superbad) and Jonah Hill (Superbad) thrown into a multiple reality mashup that reminds a bit of David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ. Based on a Norwegian television series, the version for Netflix is directed by Cary Fukunaga. That name should ring a bell, especially if you were a fan of the first season of True Detective. That to us is enough reason to patiently wait until 21 September.

As you’ll see, the trailer shows a bit of the multiple realities our two drug trialists find themselves in, including 70s America, a Middle-earth type fantasy realm and a Great Gatsby type setup.

Can the mind can be solved? Check the Maniac trailer to find out.
