Facebook Messenger rolls out new business-focused features
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 8 April 2016 | Categories: newsFacebook has been a flurry with updates this week. The latest one sees a handful of new features being rolled out for its Messenger app. These additions come after Facebook Messenger breached the 900 million monthly user mark, along with making the IM platform more business friendly. To that end, Facebook is rolling out Messenger Codes, Usernames and Links.
Messenger codes are scannable, and allow users to open up a message thread. According to Facebook, this feature is more geared towards business use, specifically for embedding codes into advertising. The same goes for the new Links functionality, which is designed to extend further than the traditional marketing channels, notes Facebook.
Both these new additions are built around the introduction of Usernames for Facebook Messenger, such as (m.me/username), which when clicked opens up a conversation within the app. Along with these three business-focused additions, Messenger users can also customise specific message greetings to appear within a message thread before a new message is sent.
