Mitsubishi has announced a feature upgrade for its Lancer 2.0 GLS sedan. Amongst others, this model update entails Bluetooth, a full complement of seven airbags, reversing camera and touchscreen controls for the audio system, all of which form part of the standard equipment list.

Despite the extra feature bang, buyers will not fork out more money for the Lancer 2.0 GLS, as the company is not increasing the vehicle’s R239 900 selling price. No exterior or interior design changes form part of the Lancer model update.

Under the bonnet of the five seater sedan resides a 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine that churns out 110 kW of power at 6 000 RPM and 197 Nm of torque at 4 200 RPM. According to Mitsubishi, the Lancer is able to deliver a combined-cycle (town and highway driving) fuel usage figure of  7 litres per 100km.

Standard equipment

The Lancer’s comprehensive list of standard equipment includes air conditioner, multi-function steering wheel that incorporates hands-free Bluetooth voice-control as well as satellite audio controls. Drivers now also get a reversing camera, centrally located touchscreen for audio settings as well as a USB port, keyless entry, an alarm-immobiliser, and auto-on/off functionality for the headlamps.

In terms of safety, Mitsubishi equipped the Lancer 2.0 GLS with seven airbags (driver, passenger, seat, curtain and driver’s knee airbags), ABS brakes, electronic brake force distribution, brake- assist and halogen headlights with front fog lamps.

“We listened to our customers in terms of specification improvements they wanted to see on Lancer and now we are pleased that we have been able to bring a much-improved medium-size car to market in South Africa,” said the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors SA, Jaco Oosthuizen.

The Mitsubishi Lancer is covered by a three year or 100 000 km warranty, plus a five year or 100 000 km service plan. Service intervals are staggered at 15 000 km.
