Destiny gets a walkthrough

Like many, we’ve been keeping a close eye on Destiny, Bungie’s upcoming shooter. So we were happy to learn that the official demo walkthrough that was presented at E3 is now live on YouTube.

In this 12 minute long video you get treated to some of the in-game combat sequences and a look at some amazing weaponry (with talent trees for further improvement) on offer. As expected, Bungie did not skimp on the level design and after this video it’s plain to see why Destiny is currently one of the most hotly anticipated titles. It is set to appear somewhere in 2014.

Sierra On-line documentary asks for funds

We might be giving away our age here, but we had a good old time playing King's Quest, Space Quest and yes, that kinky Leisure Suit Larry. Sierra On-line is of course the logo you saw when booting up the games, with the developers/publishers starting out in 1979 to become the major player in the graphic adventure games genre.

Now there is a Kickstarter out to fund a documentary about the company, plus a video to whet your appetite. Molotov Angel Productions is asking for $125 000 to produce the Heroes, The History of Sierra On-Line documentary, with $8 000 pledged so far with 31 days to go.

Celebrating Independence Day Saints style

Saints Row is one of our favourite franchises and the latest title in the series - Saints Row IV - blasts its way onto the PlayStation 3, Windows PC and Xbox 360 next month. Within Saints Row IV, the head honcho of the Saints crew somehow lands the job of President of the United States of America. Despite the Saints movin’ on up from the ghetto to the Oval Office, gamers should not expect politically correct language and jokes, nor will the graphic violence be toned down.

On the contrary, in the aftermath of a catastrophic alien invasion, the Saints-filled White House must now respond to the alien menace in their usual unrefined, no-holds-barred fashion.

As the recently released Independence Day trailer (posted below) will attest, this Duke Nukem 3D style rebellion is packed with oodle amounts of depravity, violence and F-bombs. The game has already been banned by the Australian Classification Board due to its inclusion of an ‘Alien Anal Probe’ weapon, which is almost as risque as the Penetrator weapon (basically a large flexible dildo) we used in Saints Row: The Third (review) to clobber foes senseless.  

Gran Turismo 6 demo leaves development pits

Can’t wait to race onto the virtual track within Gran Turismo 6 (GT6) at the end of the year? Well then you are in luck as Sony has made a demo of the game available on the PlayStation Network this week. Within the demo, players join the Nissan GT Academy team and have to prove their racing chops to Nissan, before unlocking the final qualifying event at Silverstone.

The demo includes a quick tutorial with tips and tricks on the controls and navigating around the track, four warm-up races in the Nissan Leaf and 370Z, as well as five time trial races on the Silverstone track behind the wheel of the Nissan 370Z.

The GT6 demo is available to anyone with a Sony Entertainment Network account and PS3 that is connected to the internet. It is available as a free download from the PlayStation Store, with GT6 slated for release in Q4 2013.

Lightning Returns and brings a new trailer with her

If like us, you have been keeping one eye on the forthcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, then you may be glad to know that Square Enix has released a new trailer. This extrapolates on the game’s story as well as Lightning’s role in saving deceased humans from being lost forever and saving the world from chaos.

The trailer, which is called The Divine Task, sets the stage for an alluring game by borrowing from saviour mythology, in which one person is divinely tasked with saving the rest of humankind.

To our mind though, the third person action role playing game has another, no less Herculean task, of making Final Fantasy alluring again. Judging by the trailer above though, it certainly looks more engaging than the previous Final Fantasy XIII entries, which ended up virtually playing themselves while we sat back and watched.

The game is slated for release in February next year, on both Xbox 360 and PS3. Take a look at the trailer below to see if it piques your interest as much as it does ours.

Some Seriously good news: Serious Sam HD collection being released

In a real blast from the past, it has been announced that a Serious Sam HD collection will be wise-cracking, one-lining and shooting its way to the Xbox 360 a little later this month.

The collection will include four Serious Sam games, namely Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, Serious Sam 3: BFE, along with the Jewel of the Nile DLC, and finally, Serious Sam: Double DXXL.

These have apparently been remastered, and will accordingly boast revamped textures and character models.

The game follows Sam Stone, who battles against alien overlord Mental and a range of minions (such as the politically incorrect kamikaze bombers, who literally have bombs for heads) and who attack by running straight at the player, screaming.

The series, which is developed by Croteam, won us over way back by being a brash, outlandish and outrageous first person shooter that we couldn’t help smiling at while frantically shooting everything in sight. It will be available on the 16^th of July for $40 (R400). Interested? Take a look at the trailers below.
