Ridley Scott's upcoming Alien movie, and follow-up to 2012's rather disappointing Prometheus, is slated to land next year. Alien: Covenant was originally intended to arrive in cinemas in May 2017, as detailed by the recently released first poster for the film via Twitter, but now its debut has been pushed back three months to August.

While the wait will be a bit longer, hopefully it will give the director time to fine tune the latest installment in the Alien franchise. Picking up from the events of Prometheus, the film will see Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Noomi Rapace (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) reprise their original roles.

In addition, Scott has confirmed that this film will look and feel far closer to an Alien movie than 2012's effort, detailing why and how the Xenomorph's were created. With Covenant the first of three new Alien prequel films, it should prove interesting to see which characters will last to see the second and third ones.
